Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is mandatory for all early years providers in England. We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and that given the right start, they able to fulfill their potential. The Early Years Foundation Stage framework supports children between birth and five and we recognise that through providing care from children aged 2, we have the opportunity to have an immensely positive impact on their future lives and embed a lifelong love of learning.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. See https://www.gov.uk/early-years-foundation-stage for more information.
At WPA, our Foundation Stage department is planning using high-quality text at its core, allowing children to explore big ideas in fun and accessible ways. The planning follows a bi-annual A/B structure, whereby Reception and Nursery explore similar themes but use different, age-appropriate texts and provision. Our children will learn through a mixture of whole class sessions, group times and exploring time, both within our well-resourced classroom and in our outdoor learning areas. As the children move through the Foundation Stage, we ensure the children have opportunities to take part in whole class writing and Maths sessions to become independent, motivated learners.
