Parent Forum Policy

 

Academy Parent Forums are designed for parents and carers to meet, share ideas, give feedback to the school and to enable them to contribute to school decision making. The Parent Forum helps develop a partnership between parents and school.

 

Purpose
Regular, open communication and consultation is highly valued at GEMS Learning Trust Academies. Parent forums aim to represent the views of all parents and to be a voice to inform our school of the needs of children and families. They facilitate communication between parents/carers and staff and governors.


The forum is not a place to address specific concerns about an individual child or issues relating to individual members of staff. Parent/carers who need to discuss these issues should approach their class teacher or the Deputy/Head teacher, or follow the school’s complaints procedure as appropriate.

 

Main Aims

1.       To support and promote children's learning.

2.       To help the school find out what parents and carers think about important issues.

3.       To involve parents and carers actively in school decisions.

4.       To make plans that support the ways the school wants to develop and improve outcomes for our children.

 

Membership
The parent forum's membership is made up of parents and carers of children attending GEMS Learning Trust Academies – everyone is welcome.  The forum is chaired by the Head or member of the Senior Leadership Team.

 

Meetings
Parent forum meetings are held termly. The agenda is prepared in advance of the meeting and circulated to parents. A typical agenda includes:

·       Items identified by the governing body and leadership team for discussion

·       Items identified by parents and carers for discussion

 

Any questions or matters for discussion must be sent in advance of the forum through the Google form link. Any questions or matters raised at the event may be deferred to the next Parent Forum. If no questions are submitted in advance and the school has no matters to discuss/consult, the Parent Forum meeting will not go ahead as planned that term.

 

Meeting dates

The school will publish the dates of the Parent Forums on the school website at the start of each full term.

 

Reporting
Minutes are taken and posted on the website shortly after the forum events.

Please could you let us know the timetable for the school day?  The timetables for the school day for the different year groups can be found on the school website https://www.gemswantageprimary.org/timetables-what-do-our-children-do-each-week/
Will the children be receiving a flu vaccination at school? And if so, when? The flu immunisation programme for all children from Reception upwards will take place on 19th November. The school nurse team will be in touch shortly and send a link to parents will all the relevant information and an online consent form. Consent must be given at least 48 hours before and it is completely up to parents. We will send you the information and link as soon as we receive it. There will be contact details on there if you have any questions.
What is the plan/ process to get individual feedback on how our children are doing in school please? Nursery and Reception parents receive regular feedback on the Evidence Me App and we have had super engagement with that from home and school. There are also three reports sent per year to give parents more feedback regarding attainment, progress and effort. These usually get sent out in November, March and July. We also hold Parents' evenings at least twice a year (the November one will most likely be held on Zoom).
Will reception class be doing forest school this year?  The training for Forest School is currently on hold due to restrictions. We are hoping to undertake this as soon as we can and then embed it into our timetable.
How do you operate lunchtimes? Do the children need to remember what they have ordered? Do they have to carry their own plates? Do they have to clear away? Lunch time takes place between 12:15 and 1:15. Children sit in the hall with their class and are sent up in small groups to collect their dinner. They do not need to remember what they have ordered as our catering manager and myself have a list and the children say their name and are reminded of their choices. All children collect their own dinner and then scrape their plate and collect pudding. They are encouraged to be independent but are given support by Myself, Mrs Williams and Miss Peck if they need help to cut etc.
