Teaching Assistant Vacancy - for Jan 2021


We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work in our fantastic school. The post will include working both in classes and running interventions, mainly with Reception and Year 1 pupils.


GEMS Wantage Primary Academy is a new school which opened in September 2020 with a nursery class, one Reception class and a mixed Year 1 / 2 class. It will eventually grow to a 2-form entry primary school of 420 pupils. This is a golden opportunity to help shape and be part of outstanding provision whilst we are still growing.


The hours for this post are 8:30am – 3:30pm and the post will commence as soon as possible after successful interview.

The salary will be based on the NJC scale starting at point 3 (£18,562 FTE). All posts are paid for 44.6 weeks which includes all inset days and 32 days annual leave (pro rata).


The hours for all three posts are 8.30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday. The pro rata salary for 32.5 hours a week is £13,945 pro rata.

The successful candidates will be:

  • Experienced in working with children preferably in a Teaching Assistant role.
  • Willing to work as part of a team and in partnership with the teacher.
  • Have experience of running interventions and supporting progress. 
  • Experienced in supporting pupils with a range of needs and able to demonstrate understanding towards them.  (For example: autism and learning difficulties).
  • Ideally have first-hand experiences of running interventions.
